Come call the hogs!
Hog hollerin' or hog callin' is a time-honored tradition for farmers all across the South. In the olden days, your hogs could be spread across acres of land, and they sure didn't have cell phones! Instead, farmers would develop their own unique hog calls that could be heard from the next house over. Calls varied from the classic soooooeeeey! to other takes like seen in the video above. Hog calling contests became popular as a way to show off your best hog call and to get the community together for some friendly competition.
Today, hog calling contests are usually held at state farms and festivals. This year we're bringing hog hollerin' to the Kings of Q BBQ Festival! This contest will also mark the announcement and grand launch of the new Ayden slogan. Check out the details below:
Today, hog calling contests are usually held at state farms and festivals. This year we're bringing hog hollerin' to the Kings of Q BBQ Festival! This contest will also mark the announcement and grand launch of the new Ayden slogan. Check out the details below:
- Contest takes place from 11am - 1pm on Saturday, May 2oth and sign-ups begin at 4pm on Saturday at the stage on West Avenue. There will be an adults and a kids-only contest.
- Participation is free and open to all, from Grandma to your toddler who loves to scream!
- Celebrity judges will determine whose call is the hoggiest
- Grand prize is a BBQ Basket with assorted BBQ goodies and merchandise, with t-shirts and other prizes for runner ups
